All-Stars Baseball

All-Stars tournament baseball offers baseball loving kids the opportunity to extend their baseball season and play more competitively.  Kids try out for their age bracket; 9, 10, 11, or 12 years old.  Practices are Sundays during the MCAA season then increase to twice a week after MCAA playoffs.  The season includes around 3 tournaments depending on how far each team gets in the state competition.   Most tournaments are in round robin format beginning with a Thursday or Friday night game, 2 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.  Teams with the best records advance to a championship game, late Sunday or Monday night. On the Cal Ripken Tournament trail, teams can advance through districts to States, Regionals, etc. depending on how well they perform in each tournament.

The objective is to field the best team possible. To that point, All-Stars differs from MCAA rec ball as there is not an equal play rule. Everyone will get to play some, but some will play more than others. Each player receives a personalized team jersey. This and tournament entry fee costs are covered by a per player fee.

Sound like a big commitment? Ask any All-star parent and most will say it’s not as involved as it sounds. Practices are flexed from week to week averaging two hours. Weekend games were often (but not always) back to back leaving time on the weekends for other activities. Most games are an hour or less away travel time. It’s important that the players attend as many games as possible but an occasional miss can be accommodated.

The benefits are many. For those that love to play and watch the game, All-Stars is FUN! Playing at a higher level, participating in tournaments, learning to play under pressure, playing with kids that love the game as much as you do . . . there are only 4 years the kids are eligible to play at this level so take advantage!

Tryouts will be in April with practices beginning in May. Watch for exact dates on the website.

MCAA Baseball Age Groups

Divisions shall be established according to age, experience, and peer group abilities. The intent of establishing these age divisions is to promote fair play and increase competition. The Divisions breakdowns are as follows:

Date of Record: The date to use to determine your players age group is May 1st of the playing year. Currently this is May 1st, 2013.

Example: If your child will be 8 Years old on May 1, 2013 they should be signed up for Instructional Baseball.

Clinic : 4 - 5 year olds

T-Ball : 5 - 6 Year olds

Instructional : 7 - 9 Year olds

All 7-8 year olds will sign up for Instructional. Numbers will dictate if we will be able to separate into 2 levels.

Instructional:

The goal is to put 1st year players at Instructional with coach pitching.

Rookie:

Second year players we will look to put in a Rookie League that will begin to develop pitching. Any 9 yr olds still needing some development will play here as well. The 9 year olds that will play in this league will be determined at the 9-12 year old evaluations for Cal Ripken.

Cal Ripken : 9 - 12 Year olds

All players 9 and older will sign up for Cal Ripken.

Minors: 9 & 10 Year olds

Majors: 11 & 12 Year olds

Evaluation Times for Saturday March 23rd

10:00-11:15; 10 year olds

11:00 - 12:15; 8 & 9 year olds (with previous playing experience)

12:00 – 12:45; 5 – 7 year old

(for further information on divisions and ages, click here)

The first 15 minutes for each group is to register, get a number and prepare for evaluations

Please bring indoor attire: sneaker not cleats, baseball glove, bat and helmet. Please wear clothes appropriate for a tryout/evaluation.

If your child is 8 and has 2 years of Instruction/Rookies experience they are encouraged to try out for Cal Ripken. (Minors; 9 & 10 – Majors; 11 & 12)

ALL players 5 years old and up must be evaluated or they will not be placed on a team. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Due to the ongoing lice problem we recommend that each child have their own helmet. This is only a recommendation and do realize that not all parents may want to or can afford to purchase a helmet for their child. We do supply some helmets to each team.

Also, if a parent is planning on coaching that parent is the one that needs to register their child online. This year the MCAA has begun to do background checks on coaches and those are done on the parent who registers the child. We need to make sure that the correct parent is checked. If you have already registered your child and the coaching parent was not the one who registered the child please let Allison Lammi know ASAP.

Lastly, please remember, we are guests at the Dome. Please be mindful of people using the track and other facilities.

Thank You
